In May 2007, 21 Stanford undergraduates and a team of scientists joined the crew of the Robert C. Seamans on a research trip from Honolulu to Christmas Island and back. The five-week voyage was the highlight of spring 2007 Stanford@SEA, a 16-unit course that gives undergrads a unique opportunity to learn nautical science, oceanography and marine biology and conduct research at sea. The course is led by professors Barbara Block and Rob Dunbar, senior fellows at Stanford¹s Woods Institute for the Environment.
