Allegations that nonstudent lived in campus housing under investigation

Stanford police and student affairs officials have been investigating since Monday allegations that a young woman lived in university residences over several months, misrepresenting herself as a Stanford student.

“No further information about it will be divulged at this time, because we do not wish to compromise the investigation,” said Greg Boardman, vice provost for student affairs. Results of the inquiry will be submitted to the Santa Clara County district attorney, who will decide whether to pursue prosecution, Boardman added.

Student affairs staff raised suspicions on Monday afternoon, and within hours, the individual was asked to leave the university.

“We consider these allegations, if confirmed, to be a serious breach of security within the residence halls,” Boardman said. “We are conducting a full investigation into what occurred and how security can be improved. Stanford is a remarkably caring and friendly community. It is unfortunate that some may be able to take advantage of that trust for their own ends.”
