Former Peruvian president to lecture at Freeman Spogli Institute

Alejandro Toledo, the former president of Peru, has been named a Payne Distinguished Visiting Lecturer for the 2007-08 academic year. Toledo will be affiliated with the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. He will present seminars, interact with students and continue his research on economic growth and democracy in the developing world. Toledo currently is a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, a position he has held since his five-year presidential term ended last July. Last November, he also was appointed a Hoover Distinguished Visiting Fellow. Toledo, who was Stanford's 2003 Commencement speaker, earned a doctorate in education from Stanford in 1992.
