NEWS RELEASE 10/02/95 CONTACT: Stanford University News Service (650) 723-2558 Memorial service to be held Oct. 7 for former Cal chancellorSTANFORD -- A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Stanford's Memorial Church for Roger Heyns, the former University of California-Berkeley chancellor who died Sept. 11, while traveling in Greece. Heyns was 77. Speakers at the service will include Chang-Lin Tien, the current chancellor at UC-Berkeley; William Hewlett, co-founder of Hewlett-Packard; and John Heyns, one of Roger Heyns' sons. Heyns had been retired for two years from the presidency of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in Palo Alto, Calif. Heyns was chancellor at UC-Berkeley from 1965 to 1971, and is widely credited with holding the university together during the height of student dissent and anti-war protests. Funeral services were held earlier in Heyns' birthplace, Holland, Mich. Memorial donations can be made to the Stanford University Chaplaincy Service (300 Pasteur Drive, H1401, Stanford, CA 94305) and/or the Young Musicians' Program at UC-Berkeley (19 Morrison Hall, University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720). -pr- 951002Arc5084.html
