Stanford researchers have found a new way to use satellite data to monitor groundwater aquifers previously obscured by the crops they nourish. The work of a team including doctoral student Jessica Reeves is being presented at the American Geophysical Union meeting in San Francisco.

The number of high school students seeking early admission to the Class of 2015 — 5,929 applicants — has set a record for Stanford. The university has sent acceptance letters to 754 applicants, or 12.7 percent of those who applied. Students have until May 1 to accept the offer.

Medical School researchers, including Helen Blau, have developed a new mouse model for Duchenne muscular dystrophy that implicates stem cells in the disorder. Published in Cell, theirs is the first research that shows definitively that muscular dystrophy is a stem-cell-based disorder.
