Stanford, Google tackle tough problems together

Visitors to the new Huang Engineering Center may see a whimsical structure built of brightly colored Lego blocks, translucent plastic and packaging tape. Tucked inside are several bulky hard drives and a logic board built by then-graduate students Sergey Brin and Larry Page, founders of Google.

Tiny gold balls offer hope for colorectal cancer detection

A class of engineered nanoparticles — gold-centered spheres smaller than viruses — has been shown safe when administered by two alternative routes in a mouse study led by School of Medicine researchers. This marks the first step up the ladder of toxicology studies that could yield to human trials of the tiny agents for detection of colorectal and possibly other cancers.

It's spring, so Mary Morrison must be giving away millions

Mary Morrison, director of funds management in the financial aid office, gives away millions. Sometimes it is easy to determine who is eligible for these funds — former foster kids or students from a particular town. Then there are others, like the fund for a woman who is "serious, but not too serious."
