Giant virus, tiny protein crystals show X-ray laser’s power

Two studies published today in Nature illustrate the unique capabilities of SLAC's Linac Coherent Light Source. The world’s first hard X-ray free-electron laser was used to demonstrate a shortcut for determining the 3-D structures of proteins and to make the first single-shot images of intact viruses.
