David Shaw, offensive coordinator for Cardinal football, has been named the team's 34th head coach. Director of Athletics Bob Bowlsby said Shaw "understands and embraces the combination of world-class academics and world-class athletics that is required at Stanford."

Applications for the fall freshman class set a record as approximately 34,200 high school students applied for admission to Stanford. The number of applicants for the Class of 2015 represents a 7 percent increase over last year, when more than 32,000 students applied for admission.

Nearly a decade after he left Stanford, Tommy Lee Woon is returning in April to become the university's first director of diversity and first-gen programs. In the new post, Woon will support low-income students and those who are first in their families to attend a four-year college.

By the end of a forum yesterday, the Ad Hoc Committee on ROTC had added new items to the list of issues it will consider as it deliberates the question of whether Stanford should reinstate the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program. About 30 people, including faculty, staff, students and committee members, attended the meeting in Encina Hall.
