Medical School breaks ground on Freidenrich Center

The School of Medicine this week put a stake in the ground on the importance of translating scientific breakthroughs into better patient health with the groundbreaking of the Jill and John Freidenrich Center for Translational Research. The center is expected to be completed in the fall of 2012.

Researchers develop easy-on, easy-off nanowire electronics

Stanford researchers have developed a new method of attaching nanowire electronics to the surface of virtually any object. The technique could be used in making everything from wearable electronics and flexible computer displays to high-efficiency solar cells and ultrasensitive biosensors.

Joseph Felter, who has served in Afghanistan, will join the Center for International Security and Cooperation as a senior research scholar, bringing his expertise in terrorism, counterinsurgency and special operations to bear on scholarly research at Stanford and other major universities.

  • Registration for Medicine 2.0 ends Monday: Medicine 2.0, an international conference dedicated to the future of social media and technology's role in medicine, takes place Sept. 16-18 at the Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge. The conference will feature Stanford Summit@Medicine 2.0, a day of talks by inspirational leaders who will discuss these technologies and their role in the future of health, medicine and biomedical research. Discounted tickets are available through Monday for faculty, staff and students. STAP funds may be used for reimbursement of the registration fees with your supervisor's approval.
