An innovative program to encourage sustainable farming in rural China has helped restore eroded forestland while producing economic gains for many farmers, according to a new study by Stanford researchers. The government pays villagers to give up farming and find new sources of employment.

The Eucalyptus Grove came alive with American Indian dance, drumming and art last weekend during the 40th Annual Stanford Powwow. The student-organized event, which traditionally falls on Mother's Day weekend, is one of the largest celebrations of Native American culture in the West.
