Stanford's new Matadero Trail opens to the public today

A new hiking trail that connects Page Mill Road and Foothill Expressway to Arastradero Road opens today, offering expansive views of San Francisco Bay. "This is a happy day," said Larry Horton, senior associate vice president for public affairs. "This trail was a long time coming."

Robert Helliwell, radioscience, magnetosphere expert, dies

Robert Helliwell pioneered the study of how radio waves – those naturally generated by lightning and manmade signals from a radio transmitter in Antarctica – interact with charged particles in the upper atmosphere. He died May 3 at 90. A service will be held at Memorial Church June 7 at 3 p.m.
