Using computational methods, Medical School researchers Atul Butte and Keiichi Kodama have strongly implicated a novel gene in the triggering of type-2 diabetes. Experiments show the gene also is likely to play a major causal role.

Thomas Cover, acclaimed information theorist, dies

Thomas Cover, one of the world's top information theorists and a professor of electrical engineering and of statistics, died on March 26 at Stanford Hospital at age 73. A memorial service is planned for October.
