Lloyd Minor named Med School dean

Dr. Lloyd B. Minor, provost of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, has been named dean of the Stanford University School of Medicine, Provost John Etchemendy announced Wednesday. Minor will transition to Stanford this fall and assume his position as dean on Dec. 1. He will succeed Dr. Philip Pizzo, who has led the School of Medicine as dean since April 2001.

Abalone bounce back quickly with help from a preserve

Protected ocean areas known as marine reserves jumpstart the recovery of nearby commercial fishing areas after an environmental event, concludes a study of abalone by researchers from Stanford and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Rosenkranz Prize winner broadens DNA database

Research associate Andres Moreno will analyze the DNA of indigenous groups and cosmopolitan populations in Latin America, thanks to the $100,000 he is receiving as this year's winner of the George Rosenkranz Prize for Health Care Research in Developing Countries.
