Tim Warner, vice provost for budget and auxiliaries management, will discuss the university's 2012/13 budget plan at today's Faculty Senate meeting. There also will be a presentation on revisions to undergraduate writing requirements.

Alumnae Nehel Khalid Khanani, who is teaching in Karachi, Pakistan, and Lucinda Lai, who is gathering material for a book on the mental health of refugees on the Thailand-Burma border, were recently named 2012 Gates Cambridge Scholars.

At a meeting of the board of the Stanford Campus Residential Leaseholders on Wednesday, PG&E representatives outlined their plans to replace a gas pipeline that runs through Stanford campus lands. The work is expected to begin in late July and be completed by mid October.

Distinguished Alumni Scholar Lecture Program: The Department of Computer Science will host the inaugural department-based Distinguished Alumni Scholar Lecture Program today, May 31. It features Joseph Teran, associate professor of applied mathematics at UCLA. Teran, who earned his doctorate from Stanford in 2005, will give a keynote address titled "Scientific Computing for Movies, Video Games and Virtual Surgery," today at 4:15 p.m. in the Hewlett Teaching Center, Room 201.
