First Tanner talk examines crisis in higher education

With state colleges and universities enduring dire cutbacks, tuition hikes and indebted students, there's little doubt that we are approaching a crisis in higher education, former Princeton President William Bowen said at Stanford's first 2012 Tanner Lecture on Human Values.

Senate discusses major loads, applauds eight Bass Fellows

At Thursday's Faculty Senate meeting, a panel of professors discussed the number of units required for certain majors. Provost John Etchemendy announced that eight faculty members had been named or reappointed Bass University Fellows.

Brain scans can predict children's reading ability

New research from Stanford shows that brain scans can identify the neural differences between strong readers and those who struggle with reading and could one day lead to an early warning system for struggling students.
