A real estate developer, a healthcare consultant and a senior adviser at the U.S. Agency for International Development are among the 25 fellows chosen by Stanford’s Distinguished Careers Institute (DCI), to take part in its 2016 program of intellectual exploration and personal reflection.

The program, now in its second year, is designed for exceptional leaders with decades of work experience who are interested in reinventing and redirecting their careers toward roles with a social impact.

Under the program, the DCI fellows have the opportunity to participate in Stanford courses offered throughout campus. Each fellow has a faculty adviser to help guide their planning for the next phase of their lives.

The DCI fellows participate in a core program that includes weekly discussion seminars with faculty on a broad range of topics, and weekly receptions in which fellows share the lessons they have learned and consider issues of life transition from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.

The program also includes one- to two-day meetings on key social and intellectual issues. Monthly dinners are held with faculty scholars, as well as leaders from the broader Stanford and Silicon Valley communities. The fellows have dedicated work and meeting space on campus. Some fellows bring their partners, who are also welcome to take part in the program.

The 2016 cohort, which will come to campus in January, is composed of seven women and 18 men who hail from California and other parts of the U.S. as well as from Brazil and Australia.

They include investment bankers, venture capitalists, attorneys and corporate CEOs.

PHILIP PIZZO, founding director of DCI, a professor of pediatrics, and of microbiology and immunology, and former dean at Stanford School of Medicine said:

“I am deeply pleased and impressed by the breadth and depth of the individuals who will join the second year of the Distinguished Careers Institute to pursue renewed purpose, networking and community building, and a recalibration of health and wellness as vital components of their personal transformations.”
