Welcome!
We are an interdisciplinary team based at Stanford PACS, working at the intersection of human centered design, strategic philanthropy, and the behavioral sciences, to design and test methods, messages, products and services to increase donor impact. Our lab is supported by a grant from the Raikes Foundation.
This lab emerged from a Hewlett Foundation supported fellowship and Raikes Foundation case study. You can learn more about it in the background.
Our Mission
EPL aims to better understand high net worth donors’ philanthropic motivations and behaviors; design and test user friendly, accessible and engaging tools to help high net worth donors increase their effectiveness; and share lessons learned with the broader philanthropic field and social sector.
GAIN INSIGHT BUILD SHARE
Working with experts in strategic philanthropy, human centered design, and the behavioral sciences, the Lab’s team will design and pilot a series of experiments they will test with high net worth donors and related stakeholders between October 2015 and December 2016. The experiments will comprise of in-person engagements, as well as online interactions, and the lessons will be shared publicly.
EPL’s Guiding Questions:
Each of our research designs and experiments aim to advance our learning around one of the two following questions:
- How might we encourage high net worth donors, or potential high net worth donors, to be more impact-oriented with their giving?
- What resources, experiences, and tools will help high net worth donors, who have decided to be more impact-oriented with their philanthropic giving, engage in more effective philanthropic principles and practices?
