I bike, walk, and take the train.

When I finished graduate school, my husband and I thought we were going to have to move south since I got a job here at Stanford and my husband works in the South Bay and we only want to have one car. But we love our community, and have a wonderful home and great neighbors. Plus, moving is dreadful. Thanks to the Stanford Go Pass, we have been able to stay where we are and I enjoy a low stress, low-/no-cost commute.

Depending on my mood, I bike or walk one to two miles to the train station through tree lined streets and by about the time I have finished checking my email and reading the headlines, the train arrives in Palo Alto. With the price of gas over $4 a gallon, we are saving enough money to take a nice vacation every year. Exercise is part of my daily routine without even having to think about it and my commute actually benefits my health and finances. Best of all, I actually enjoy it.
