The John A. Blume Earthquake Engineering Center
The Blume Center, part of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford, is devoted to the advancement of research, education and practice in earthquake engineering. Through its activities, the Blume Center contributes to the understanding of earthquakes and their effects on structures. These activities include research, instruction, publication of reports and articles, and sponsorship of seminars and conferences.
Earthquake Seismology Group
The Earthquake Seismology Group, part of the Stanford School of Earth Sciences, investigates earthquakes, their location, the physical mechanisms that generate them and the ground motions associated with rupture. Areas of interest include high-resolution earthquake locations, the physics of earthquake rupture, including earthquake nucleation, rupture dynamics, radiated seismic energy and energy scaling. Also of interest are subduction zone seismicity and predicting earthquake ground motion for seismic hazard analysis.
The Quake-Catcher Network
Stanford researchers are among the scientists behind The Quake-Catcher Network, a collaborative initiative for developing the world's largest, low-cost strong-motion seismic network by utilizing sensors in and attached to Internet-connected computers.
