Advisory Committees
CALPADS Advisory Committee (CAC). The CDE has convened a CALPADS Advisory Committee (CAC) to provide LEA input during the development and implementation of CAPADS. The CAC is made up of representatives from 29 LEAs that represent California’s diversity in terms of size, region, type, and type of student information system used. The CAC is responsible for reviewing and providing comment on specified vendor deliverables within a given timeframe, attend Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions, and participate in application testing. For a list of CAC LEAs, visit the CAC LEAs Web page.
Statewide Data Policy Advisory Committee. Education Code sections 49084 and 60900 require the CDE to convene an Advisory Board to: (1) guide the development of the longitudinal data system; (2) establish privacy and access protocols; and (3) recommend the collection of additional data elements. The Advisory Board must include representatives from the State Board of Education, the Secretary for Education, the Department of Finance, the State Privacy Ombudsman, and the Legislative Analyst's Office; representatives of parent groups, school districts and local educational agencies; and education researchers. The CDE is in the process of reconstituting the CALPADS Advisory Board as the State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s (SSPI’s) Statewide Data Policy Advisory Committee and the CALPADS-CALTIDES working group described below. This Committee will focus more comprehensively on student- and teacher-level data and issues related to both CALPADS and CALTIDES. More information on this Board will be provided when available.
CALPADS-CALTIDES Working Group. The CDE also convenes a CALPADS-CALTIDES Working Group at key milestones in the development of the systems. Committee members serve voluntarily and travel expenses are not reimbursed. The group includes stakeholders representing school boards, local educational agencies, teachers, administrators, parents, postsecondary institutions, researchers, business, public school advocates, the Legislature, and various state agencies. The meetings are geared toward specific issues related to the development and implementation of CALPADS-CALTIDES. The next CALPADS-CALTIDES Working Group is tentatively scheduled for May 2008. Interested persons should contact Paula Mishima (see Staff Contacts).
