On a snowy Presidents' Day Weekend in Cambrdige, Massachusetts, No. 10 Stanford topped No. 15 Drexel, No. 11 Brown and No. 9 Dartmouth to win the Kurtz Cup for the first time in program history.
The Kurtz Cup is the B Division for the CSA National Championships. Stanford previously competed in the Kurtz Cup in 2007, finishing fourth in the division and 12th overall. Harvard, the host of this year's championships, claimed the 2015 national title by winning the Howe Cup Sunday.
The Cardinal received perhaps its strongest weekend of the season from the top of the lineup, propelling Stanford to the three wins. CC Ho, Sarah Bell and Christie Huchro went 3-0 at Nos. 1-3 in all three matches to set the tone.
The dominant performances by Ho, Bell and Huchro are especially good signs for the future. Ho is a sophomore, and Bell and Huchro are only freshmen, so the Cardinal has a strong core of talent at the top of the lineup to build on.
Seniors Ariel Posner and Ally Huchro went 2-1 to close out their Stanford careers on a high note. Posner, a symbolic systems major, picked up big wins against Drexel and Brown, while Huchro, the team captain, dominated her final match in three games against the Green Wave. Tatyanna Dadabbo and Julia Olson also finished 2-1 for the Cardinal.
