ST. LOUIS – Redshirt sophomore Jim Wilson became Stanford wrestling’s first All-American since 2012, Friday, winning in sudden victory in the round of 12 of the 2015 NCAA Tournament at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Wilson secured his second sudden-victory decision of the day, winning 7-5 over 13th-seeded Cooper Moore of Northern Iowa at 165 pounds. Trailing 2-1 going into the second, the Lodi, California native, tallied an escape and a takedown to take a 4-2 advantage into the third. Moore took a 5-4 lead with an escape and a takedown of his own before Wilson notched the final escape to force extra time. There, Wilson, the No. 10 seed, finished a double-leg to ensure his All-America status.

In his second match of the evening session, Wilson dropped a 6-2 decision to ninth-seeded Jackson Morse of Illinois. He will meet the No. 3 seed Isaac Jordan of Wisconsin on Saturday and wrestle for seventh place.

Wilson becomes the 17th All-American in program history and the first since Nick Amuchastegui (2nd) and Ryan Mango (5th) placed in St. Louis in 2012. Wilson is the first sophomore to earn the status since Mango (6th) did so in 2011 in Philadephia.

Saturday’s medal round begins at 8 a.m. PT with coverage on ESPNU and ESPN3.com.
