Four Scholar Athletes

STANFORD, Calif. – Four members of the Stanford lightweight rowing team were named CRCA Scholar Athletes on Thursday.

Senior Mackenzie Crist, junior Brittany Presten and sophomores Sarah Hirshorn and Jackie Huddle were named to the list. To be eligible a student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.5 or better and have completed one full year of college.

Crist, an art practice major, is a member of the varsity eight and is on pace to graduate in a few weeks. She plans to stay in the Bay Area and work after receiving her degree.

Presten is majoring in biomechanical engineering and recently built a pinball machine for one of her engineering classes. She has been a steady member of the varsity eight after studying abroad in the fall.

Hirshorn, a public policy major, has been very involved in philanthropy at Stanford. She started Project SWEEP, a program that teaches kids from EPATT how to erg and promotes physical fitness. She will race in the varsity four at the IRA Championships this weekend.

Huddle plans to major in international relations but has not officially declared. She is a member of the Autism Awareness Group and the Stanford Association for International Development at Stanford, while also helping out with Project SWEEP. She is in her second season with the varsity eight.

Stanford will begin competition at the IRA National Championships on Saturday at 8 a.m. ET.
