Newport, R.I. - Hours after finishing in the top-10 at the Sperry Sailing Women’s Nationals, Stanford was back on the water at the Laserperformance Team Race Nationals today.

In all, 80 races were held on day one of team racing, which features three stages. First, the 16 participating teams square off in a round-robin. The field is then cut to eight, followed by another cut to four, after which a champion will be crowned.

No. 3 Stanford holds an 8-2 clip after day one, and is tied with Boston College for fourth place. Familiar faces Kieran Chung, Hans Henken, and Antoine Screve skippered the Cardinal boats, with crews Haley Kirk, Nikki Obel, and John Cannistraro assisting.

The Cardinal has its work cut out for them tomorrow when they will face off with No. 2 Boston College and No. 4 Charleston. In all, Stanford will sail five more races in the round-robin with hopes of securing qualification for the next round
