STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford men’s rowing team was well represented on the Pac-12 All-Academic team.
The Cardinal had the second most first team selections with eight and tied for the second most overall picks with 15.
Junior economics major Landon Alecxih was the highlight of the field with a 4.05 GPA, the highest of any men’s rower in the conference. In his first year with the program, Alecxih competed in the second varsity eight throughout the season and helped the varsity four to a bronze medal finish at the IRA National Championships.
The 2015 Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year, Kaess Smit was also on the first team along with fellow seniors Scott Roycroft (earth systems) and Andrew Terajewicz (biomechanical engineering). All three seniors made the first team.
The other Cardinal rowers on the first team were Nico Cserepy (computer science), Kendall Fagan (mechanical engineering), Jim Grace (math and computational science) and Nathalie Weiss (art history).
Making the second team were junior Greg Wolk (science, technology and society) and sophomores Erik Holmvik (political science) and Peter Wood (undeclared).
One junior and three sophomores received honorable mention. The junior was Karl Wessendorf (chemical engineering) and the sophomores are all undeclared with Max Freundlich, Ryan Hails and Ardsley Sanders.
Stanford has placed 15 or more on the All-Academic team in six of the last seven years.
