DURHAM, N.C. -- USA Baseball revealed the coaching staff and the taskforce for the 2015 Tournament of Stars presented by Major League Baseball, June 23 to 28, including Stanford University pitching coach Rusty Filter.
The Tournament of Stars staff and taskforce will assist the 2015 18U National Team coaching staff in selecting the participants for the 2015 18U National Team Trials. The coaches and taskforce will lead the 108 athletes participating in the event at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
The first round of trials is set to begin June 29 in Cary. The second round will open on August 16 at Cal State University, Fullerton.
The 18U staff is led by Barbe (La.) High School head coach, Glenn Cecchini. Cecchini, a veteran of Team USA identification events, has worked the 18U National Team Trials each of the past two seasons. Cecchini is assisted by 10-year MLB veteran and two-time All-Star David Eckstein, Horizon High School head coach Eric Kibler, as well as Cal State Northridge head coach, Greg Moore.
Regarded as one of the best pitching coaches in the nation, assistant coach Rusty Filter marked his sixth season on The Farm in 2015. He has helped Stanford reach the NCAA tournament four times and qualify for four Super Regionals.
Filter has coached two No. 1 overall picks in Mark Appel (Stanford, 2013) and Stephen Strasburg (San Diego State, 2009).
