STANFORD, Calif. – Back in Maples Pavilion after a four-match road swing, the eighth-ranked Stanford women’s volleyball team swept No. 24 Pacific, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20, Friday, in Stanford, California. The Cardinal moves to 5-2 overall, while the Tigers fall to 8-2.
As a team, Stanford hit .322 for the match, limiting itself to nine attack errors. The Cardinal also racked up 13.0 blocks, holding the Tigers to a .144 attack percentage.
Freshman opposite Hayley Hodson led the Cardinal offensively, posting 14 kills on .333 hitting to go with five digs, two blocks and an ace. Senior outside hitter Brittany Howard added nine kills on .364 hitting and three blocks.
Defensively, Stanford was led by redshirt sophomore middle blockers Merete Lutz and Ivana Vanjak, who registered seven and six blocks, respectively. Freshman libero Halland McKenna finished with a team-high 10 digs and a career-best six assists.
Senior setter Madi Bugg guided the offense with 27 assists. She also notched nine digs and two blocks. Senior outside hitter Jordan Burgess totaled four kills, six digs and three blocks in the win.
Pacific hung with the Cardinal in the first set, which had eight tie scores and three lead changes. The Tigers were led by junior outside hitter Lexi Elman’s 14 kills and six digs. Junior Alicja Wilk and sophomore Maycie LaBass added eight kills apiece.
Stanford closes out the nonconference portion of its schedule on Saturday, Sept. 19 as it plays host to Saint Mary’s. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from Maples Pavilion.
