TEMPE, Ariz. – For the first time since 2000, the Stanford women’s volleyball team fell to Arizona State, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, Friday, at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Arizona, snapping a 28-match winning streak. The Cardinal drops to 8-4 overall and to 2-2 in the Pac-12, while the Sun Devils remain undefeated at 14-0 and 3-0 in the conference.

Arizona State hit .297 as a team and held a 10.0 to 8.0 advantage in the block column. Four Sun Devils tallied double-digit kills, led by senior outside hitter Macey Gardner’s match-high 22. Sophomore libero Halle Harker racked-up a match-best 23 digs for the Sun Devils, which held the Cardinal to a .259 attack percentage

Freshman Hayley Hodson led Stanford with a career-high tying 18 kills and seven digs. Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Merete Lutz added 15 kills on .419 hitting and six blocks, including three solo.

Senior outside hitter Brittany Howard finished with eight kills and seven digs, including her 1,000th career kill. She joins fellow seniors Jordan Burgess and Inky Ajanaku in accomplishing that feat. She is now just 11 digs away from becoming the 10th player in program history to register 1,000 career kills and digs.

Senior setter Madi Bugg turned in her fourth straight double-double with 45 assists and 11 digs. She leads the team with six on the season. Freshman libero Halland McKenna collected 14 digs, tallying double-digits for the eighth time this year.

Stanford returns to The Farm next week to play host to Oregon State on Friday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. and No. 22 Oregon on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. Both matches will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
