Cambridge, Mass. – Stanford freshman women’s rower Elizabeth Sharis represented the Cardinal in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass.

Sharis raced in the Women's Championship Singles on Saturday, placing eighth overall and first among collegiate competitors in highly-competitive 20-team field that includes several Olympians. She finished with a time of 20:50.824 in the 4800-meter course.

“It was an impressive effort for someone of Elizabeth’s age and experience to do so well against top-notch talent,” Stanford head women’s rowing coach Yasmin Farooq said. “We were excited to have Elizabeth represent Stanford in the single because we’ve had so many successful scullers come through Stanford, including 2008 Olympian Lindsay Meyer, who finished third today. We’re very invested in sculling as it has played a key role in helping us make NCAA lineups go fast come spring time.”

Sharis competed in the 2015 Junior World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August, where she represented the United States in the three seat in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls. The United States took home the Bronze medal at the Junior World Championships.

The Cardinal will compete in the Head of the American in Sacramento, Calif. on Oct. 24.
