STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford women’s lacrosse team is proud to announce the addition of Kristen Carr as assistant coach, as announced Wednesday by head coach Amy Bokker.

A current member of the USA Women’s National Team, Carr brings four years of Division I coaching experience to the Cardinal staff. She served as a volunteer assistant coach for a year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before completing three years as an assistant at the University of Delaware from 2011-2014.

"We are thrilled to welcome Kristen Carr to the Stanford Women's Lacrosse program,” said Bokker.  “She brings experience at so many levels to our team, as both an athlete and coach.  Having recently completed her MBA while competing as a member of the U.S. National Team, Kristen embodies the type of commitment to athletic and academic pursuits that we strive for at Stanford.  She reflects the values we instill in our players and we are excited for her to share her passion for the sport of lacrosse with our athletes."

Carr’s primary responsibilities with the Blue Hens included working closely with the draw unit, midfielders and goalies. Following her second year with the program, Carr became responsible for coordinating the offensive and draw unit. In addition she assisted with strength and conditioning, service initiatives, player development, equipment and sponsorship, travel and fundraising efforts.

On the appointment, Carr stated, "Amy possesses incredible passion and knowledge about the sport of lacrosse, with which she has built Stanford’s program into one of national prominence. I am excited for the opportunity to work with and learn from Amy, as well as to coach such an elite group of student athletes. Stanford lacrosse exemplifies greatness both on and off the field, which is a tradition I will ensure always remains at the forefront of this program.”

Carr began her coaching career after a phenomenal career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a four-year standout as a defensive midfielder. She led the Tar Heels to a four-year record of 60-20 and four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a national runner-up finish in 2009, a berth in the semifinals in 2010 and trips to the quarterfinals in 2007 and 2008. Throughout her career she set a UNC career record with 174 draw controls while also setting single game (eight) and single season (64) marks for draw controls.

She earned first team All-American and first team All-ACC honors as a senior in 2010 when she was one of the nation’s top draw control specialists and led the nation’s third-ranked defense that allowed just 7.25 goals per game.

Carr joins a Stanford team that went 15-3 overall and claimed a MPSF championship before advancing to the NCAA First Round in 2015. In addition, the Cardinal led the nation in scoring and draw controls.
