STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford women’s soccer player Maddie Bauer was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America, as announced Thursday by the organization.
Bauer was named to the third team and is the only Pac-12 representative on any of the three teams. The standout center back and co-captain holds a 3.49 GPA as an international relations major. She was named an NSCAA All-Pacific Region first team selection, earned her third consecutive All-Pac-12 second team honor and second straight Pac-12 All-Academic award earlier this year.
Bauer anchored Stanford’s defense at center back and helped Stanford record 12 shutouts and limit opponents to 13 goals on the season (0.55 GAA). The junior co-captain's experience, speed and ability to halt opponents’ attack was undeniable and forced the opposition to find alternate routes to the goal.
Bauer helped Stanford go undefeated in Pac-12 play with a 10-0-1 record to claim the 10th title in program history. Her leadership on the backline helped the Cardinal secure 11 one-goal victories and limit opponents to the fewest goals among Pac-12 teams.
Stanford ended the 2015 season on a 15-game unbeaten streak, has won at least 19 games in seven of the past eight years and extended its NCAA Tournament home unbeaten streak to 29 games.
To be named to a Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team
