THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Stanford men's tennis team wrapped up the Sherwood Collegiate Cup Monday with two Cardinal doubles duos falling in the main draw semifinals. Stanford wrapped up the weekend with one doubles team advancing to the consolation doubles final as well as two in the consolation singles quarterfinals.
On the weekend in singles, the Cardinal advanced three of six past the round of 32 with Sameer Kumar, Nolan Paige and Michael Genender all advancing in straight sets. The round of 16 also saw Genender fire up to top USC’s Laurens Verboven 6-4, 7-6(6) to advance to quarterfinals. UCLA’s Gage Brymer awaited to end Genender’s run though with a tough-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 match.
In doubles action, Stanford sent two teams of Nolan Paige and Maciek Romanowicz and Michael Genender and Sameer Kumar past the round of 16 and the quarterfinals to Sunday’s semifinal match ups, where both fell in hard-fought matches.
The Cardinal will open up its dual season this Wednesday as they set to host Sacramento State and UC Davis at the Taube Family Tennis Center. Match times are set for 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
