Perfect First Weekend

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Fifteen different Cardinal scored in two games and No. 1 Stanford closed out its first weekend of action in 2016 with a pair of wins at the LouStrong Memorial hosted by San Jose State. The Cardinal cruised to a 19-1 victory over against CSU Monterey Bay early on Sunday morning before beating the host No. 8 Spartans in the afternoon, 10-5.

Stanford will have a few weeks off before returning to action on Feb. 6 and 7 when it hosts the Stanford Invitational at Avery Aquatic Center. Tickets are on sale now by visiting GoStanford.com. An adult weekend pass costs $25 and is $15 for youth (2-17) and senior (62+). Single-day tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for youth and senior. Stanford students are free.

No. 1 Stanford 19 – CSU Monterey Bay 1

Shannon Cleary and Mackenzie Wiley led the way with their first career hat tricks, 12 Cardinal scored and Stanford beat CSU Monterey Bay, 19-1. The Cardinal raced out to a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter before CSUMB notched its only score with 6:19 on the clock in the second.

Cassidy Papa and Rachel Johnson added multi-goal games for Stanford, which scored six goals in each of the first and second quarters to lead 12-1 at halftime.

Anna Yelizarova and Katie Dudley split time in the cage. Yelizarova played the first three frames and made six stops. Dudley came on in the fourth and made three saves.

No. 1 Stanford 10 – No. 8 San Jose State 5

Stanford defeated host San Jose State, 10-5, to wrap up a perfect opening weekend. Jamie Neushul had her second hat trick of the tournament to pace Stanford in scoring against the Spartans, while Jordan Raney and Gurpreet Sohi each accounted for two of the Cardinal’s 10 scores.

Sohi scored on a power play with 5:29 on the clock in the first and Dani Jackovich followed 39 seconds later to put Stanford up 2-0 after the first eight minutes.

Katie Dudley (5:57) and Neushul (5:00) added to the Cardinal’s lead in the second quarter before SJSU got on the board with 4:38 until intermission. Raney scored with 2:00 left in the period to put Stanford on top 5-1 at halftime.

Anna Yelizarova scored to lead off the third before SJSU answered with three straight goals to pull within two, 6-4. Neushul fired home a penalty (2:38) and Raney rattled the cage with 1:41 left in the quarter to give Stanford some breathing room heading into the fourth, 8-4.

Sohi (6:44) and Neushul (0:46) provided Stanford the insurance it needed in the final period to come away with the 10-5 victory.
