STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford freshman Kat Klass was named MPSF/Kap7 Newcomer of the Week when the conference announced its weekly honors on Tuesday afternoon.
Klass had quite the debut for the No. 1 Cardinal at the LouStrong Memorial, scoring seven times on the tournament’s opening day and pouring in eight goals overall as Stanford started its 2016 season 4-0.
She notched her first career hat trick in her first career game, scoring three times in Stanford’s 16-10 victory over No. 10 Pacific on Saturday morning. Later that afternoon, Klass was responsible for four of her team’s 11 goals in the Cardinal’s 11-6 win against No. 9 UC Davis. The freshman closed out her weekend with another score in 19-1 victory against CSU Monterey Bay on Sunday. Klass tied junior All-American Jamie Neushul for the team lead in goals through the season’s first weekend.
Stanford will have a few weeks off before returning to action on Feb. 6 and 7 when it hosts the Stanford Invitational at Avery Aquatic Center. Tickets are on sale now by visiting GoStanford.com. An adult weekend pass costs $25 and is $15 for youth (2-17) and senior (62+). Single-day tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for youth and senior. Stanford students are free.
