TEMPE, Ariz. – Stanford split a pair of games to conclude play at the Kajikawa Classic on Sunday, falling to CSUN and defeating Seattle U.
The Cardinal finished the weekend 3-2 with wins against Portland State, Cal Poly and Seattle U. Kylie Sorenson paced Stanford offensively going 7-for-15 (.467) with five runs, five RBIs, a home run and a .667 slugging percentage.

Carolyn Lee made her collegiate debut in the circle and went 1-1 during the tournament. She held a 2.10 ERA and permitted eight runs – four earned – on 15 hits and three walks in 13.1 innings. Haley Snyder pitched 16.0 innings over three games and held a 3.50 ERA with 13 strikeouts.
Stanford found itself in an early hole against CSUN with the Matadors rallying for three runs in the first two innings. Lee got the start in the circle and did a good job to limit the damage early and keep the Cardinal close.
Stanford had its opportunities to match CSUN early but left runners in scoring positions in each of the first three innings – managing just one run in the third when Jessica Plaza hit a sacrifice fly to score Sorenson.
Stanford put together its comeback effort in the top of the fifth inning when Fowkes led off the inning with a walk and Sorenson followed with a booming home run to left field to knot the game at 3-3. The next three Cardinal reached base to load the bases but Stanford was unable to take the lead after a double play and a strikeout ended the inning.
Stanford was unable to produce a run in the sixth and seventh innings, which set the stage for CSUN to walk-off in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to right field.

TEMPE, Ariz. – Seven Stanford players combined for 11 hits to help the Cardinal rebound quickly and pick up an 8-2 win against Seattle U.
The Cardinal got production from its entire lineup with its sixth through ninth hitters each registering two hits apiece.
Stanford again found itself in an early hole, surrendering a run in each of the first two innings. However, Stanford responded with an eight-run performance in the third inning to take a commanding lead.
Arden Pettit made her first start of the season at third base and sparked the Cardinal’s rally in the third inning with a leadoff single. She finished the day 2-for-3 with two runs. Pettit was also strong defensively, making the routine plays and snatching a couple nice grabs on hard hit balls down the line.
Fowkes followed Pettit with a single of her own. She also had a strong game at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Sorenson kept the rally going with the Cardinal’s third consecutive single and picked up an RBI to cut the Redhawks’ lead to 2-1. Victoria Molina gave Stanford its first lead of the day with a two-RBI triple over the right fielder’s head.
The inning broke open when Lauren Bertoy hit a hard grounder to the Seattle U’s second baseman who was unable to make the play. The Cardinal reeled off five unearned runs following the play to take an 8-2 lead.
Snyder got into a groove in the circle after the first two innings and permitted just two hits and no walks for the remainder of the game to seal the tournament-ending victory.
