STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Cal Quantrill was named to USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List on Tuesday.

Quantrill is one of 50 players on the watch list for the award given to the nation's top amateur player. He is one of just four players to make the preseason list in each of the last two years.

Quantrill and teammate Tommy Edman were picked as third-team preseason All-Americans by Baseball America earlier this winter, and Quantril was also selected as a third-team Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball News.

A Management Science and Engineering major, Quantrill was 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA prior to suffering a season-ending injury last season. As a freshman, the Port Hope, Ontario, native was 7-5 with a 2.68 ERA in 17 starts, which included two complete games and 98 strikeouts in 110.2 innings. He earned All-Pac-12 honors and was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.

The winner of the 39th Golden Spikes Award will be named on Thursday, June 30, at a presentation in Los Angeles. The finalists and their families will be honored at the Rod Dedeaux Foundation Dinner that evening at the Jonathan Club in downtown Los Angeles.

Last year, University of Arkansas' outfielder Andrew Benintendi took home the prestigious award, joining a group of recent winners that include A. J. Reed (2014), Kris Bryant (2013), Mike Zunino (2012), Trevor Bauer (2011), Bryce Harper (2010), Stephen Strasburg (2009), Buster Posey (2008), and David Price (2007).

Opening Day for the Cardinal is Friday at historic Klein Field at Sunken Diamond.

Individual and season tickets as well as mini-plans are now on sale. Season tickets and mini-plans are the only way to guarantee your seats at Fireworks Night on Friday, May 27.
