SAN JOSE, Calif. – Freshman Kat Klass scored a career-high five goals and No. 3 Stanford led wire-to-wire in its MPSF opener, beating No. 10 San Jose State on Saturday afternoon, 17-3.

The win, which moved Stanford’s record to 13-2 this season, was also the program’s 40th straight in league regular-season games.

Klass, who’s five-goal outing is the most for a Cardinal player this season, scored at 3:00 and 1:58 in the first following Jamie Neushul’s opening tally (5:13) to put Stanford up 3-0. McYenna Yates got San Jose State on the board, but Dani Jackovich scored her first of three goals in a 6-on-5 situation with 21 seconds remaining in the opening frame to push the Cardinal advantage to 4-1.

Jackovich (4:49) and Rachel Johnson (2:53) rattled the cage for Stanford in the second quarter before Klass converted on back-to-back possessions and scored goals three and four at 1:58 and 1:26. Gurpreet Sohi fired home her 21st of the season with just five seconds until the break to put the Cardinal up 10-2 at halftime.

Stanford scored three more times in the third without surrendering a goal. Jackovich completed her third hat trick of the year at 5:07 and Klass capped off her career day with a strike at 3:25. Shannon Cleary converted Stanford’s second power play goal of the game with 1:36 on the clock.

Neushul added two more insurance goals in the final period and Lauren Norheim and Katie Dudley tacked on late scores as well to seal the win. Neushul’s hat trick was her seventh of the season.

Julia Hermann made 10 saves in the cage for Stanford, her fourth career game in double figures.
