STANFORD, Calif. - No. 13 Stanford fell to 2-2 on Sunday, dropping 4-1 decisions against Pacific and Saint Mary’s in the Stanford Invitational at the Stanford Sand Volleyball Stadium.
“The team battled all weekend and I am proud of the way they competed to the end,” said head coach Denise Corlett. “This was the first NCAA beach competition for seven of our players, so we are only going to get better. Today was definitely a learning experience with which we can improve throughout the season.”

The freshman duo of Courtney Bowen and Jennifer DiSanto were the Cardinal’s most prolific pair on the day, winning both of their matches, 2-0.
Stanford’s No. 1 pair of junior Ivana Vanjak and freshman Payton Chang went 0-2, losing both games in the third set. Also pushing both of their games to third sets were Hayley Hodson and Catherine Raquel.
“Our top three pairs went to a third set in all games but one, so you have to give them credit for hanging in there and being competitive,” said Corlett.
Stanford returns to the sand on March 29 when it faces San Francisco, the lone participant in the Stanford Invitational not to play the Cardinal, away from home.
