Softblog: Stanford in Hawaii

Release: 03/08/2016

A Stanford softball student-athlete has written a weekly blog in each of the past three seasons to provide fans a behind-the-scenes perspective of the team. This year, sophomore Arden Pettit is taking over the Softblog to chronicle the team's adventures throughout the season. Her fifth entry this year is below.

Surfs up Stanford softball fans!

We did a lot of cool things this weekend and took a lot of cool pictures. So please don’t be too jealous.

First off, shoutout to the coaching staff for putting together an awesome trip. It was my first time to Hawaii and it is one I won’t forget.

We arrived in sunny Hawaii on Thursday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by our beach-side hotel (thank you coaches). We went straight to the beach for our first taste of beach time.

Look at our adorable freshies.

CLee and Molly tested out the GoPro during their swim. Molly seemed to struggle a little bit.

Whit, Plaz, and Frosty were much more successful with the GoPro …

Bert lost her feet at the beach but we found them in time to play on Friday.

Following our beaching the coaches had another surprise in store for us that night. A HAWAIIAN LUAU!!! It was quite the way to start off our Hawaiian experience. We learned a lot about the local culture.

We learned the proper form for a “shaka”.

Got personal hula lessons from experts.

And even got to see some crazy guy throw fire around.

We were so excited to be in Hawaii that some of us got up at 6:15 a.m. the next morning to catch some waves. The boards were way bigger than us …

Safe to say it was a great way to start the day.

We thought it was only fitting to take a picture with a surfer’s car after we finished surfing.

Molly and CLee are getting closer to mastering the GoPro … next step is opening their eyes.

We got to spend a lot of time exploring everything Hawaii has to offer. Frosty, Whit, and Plaz were the team resident bird whisperers.

Just some goofballs soaking up the Hawaiian sun.

Our last night consisted of a great dinner …

Food trucks for dessert …

And a beautiful beach sunset.

Oh yeah, and we also found some time to play a little softball and went 4-1, hitting 12 combined team home runs this weekend. Maybe we should go to Hawaii more often (I hope your reading this, Coach Hanson).

It was sad to leave the beautiful Aloha State but we are back in Palo Alto already preparing for this weekend’s home tournament. Hope to see you guys out at our games this weekend!
