SAN FRANCISCO – The man who revolutionized the game of basketball, Stanford’s three-time All-American Hank Luisetti, was named to the Pac-12 Conference All-Century Team.

The Stanford legend was one of eight guards and 20 players overall to be voted to the conference’s all-century squad.

Luisetti popularized the running one-handed shot when he first introduced it on Dec. 30, 1936 in a victory over Long Island University at Madison Square Garden in New York. Luisetti and the Cardinal defeated Long Island University, 45-31, in that game, snapping LIU’s 43-game winning streak.

A two-time national player of the year, Luisetti scored a school-record 50 points on Jan. 1, 1938 in a 92-27 win over Duquesne. He was honored as a first-team all-conference selection in 1936, 1937 and 1938. The guard is a member of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame and the Citizens Savings (formerly Helms) Foundation Basketball Hall of Fame.

Luisetti (1935-38) completed his Stanford career with 1,291 points. He averaged 14.3 points per game as a sophomore, 15.2 as a junior and 19.4 as a senior. The guard led Stanford to three straight PCC championships from 1936-38.

Luisetti, who passed away in 2002 at the age of 86, has his No. 7 jersey retired. He is also a member of the Stanford Hall of Fame.
