ATLANTA, Ga. – Stanford’s 2015-16 season came to a close Saturday evening with a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Sam Perry came through all week, and Ted Miclau’s performance on the platform was key for us.” said Goldman Family Director of Men’s Swimming Ted Knapp. “Of the 14 swimmers and four divers that were invited, three were freshman and seven were sophomores. We outscored our projected point total on the psych sheet, and it was a big meet for the six point-scorers who hadn’t scored at NCAA’s before.”

Liam Egan and Danny Thomson represented the Cardinal in the 1,650-yard freestyle, the opening event of the evening session. Thomson (14.58.10) finished 19th while Egan (14:52.34) took 14th, good enough for an All-America honorable mention.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Patrick Conaton (1:41.80) placed 26th, Ryan Arata (1:42.08) took 30th and Maxwell Williamson (1:43.93) was 39th.

Perry (42.85) earned his fifth All-America honorable mention of the meet with a 14th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.

Matt Anderson (1:58.19) finished 34th in the 200-yard breaststroke, while Curtis Ogren (1:58.57) took 36th place.

Gray Umbach (1:43.85) finished 16th in the 200-yard butterfly, earning All-America honorable mention. It was the third such honor in Umbach’s four seasons with the Cardinal.

In the platform diving competition, Miclau qualified for the A-final, finishing sixth with a score of 378.00 while earning first-team All-America honors. Tarek Abdelghany (350.50) finished 20th in prelims.

In the final event of the meet, the 400-yard medley relay, Stanford’s team of Perry, Jeff Garnier, Spencer DeShon and Sean Duggan (2:51.54) took second place in the B-final, good enough for 10th overall. They also earned an All-America honorable mention.
