STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford signee Albane Valenzuela of Vesenaz, Switzerland, has been selected to the European Team for next month’s PING Junior Solheim Cup at St. Leon-Rot Golf Club in Germany, it was announced Monday. The New York-born Valenzuela is the Swiss International Champion and 36th in the latest Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking.
“I am delighted with how things have turned out,” said European captain Iben Tinning, who competed on four European Solheim Cup teams. “I genuinely believe this is one of the strongest teams Europe has ever assembled for the PING Junior Solheim Cup and look forward to trying to win the trophy back from the Americans.”
The match play competition features the top 12 female golfers ages 18 or younger from Europe against the United States. It features six foursome matches, six four-ball matches and 12 singles matches, and will be played Sept. 14-15, the week before The Solheim Cup proper is contested on the same venue.
Valenzuela, who speaks four languages, was one of two signees last season who will be joining the 2015 NCAA champion women’s golf team.
