Mantova, Italy – In a series of four scrimmages between Stanford and Mantova, each team captured a victory and the Cardinal and Stings tied in the two additional scrimmages during Tuesday night’s exhibition in Mantova, Italy.

Senior Rosco Allen helped the Cardinal surge ahead midway through the first scrimmage with eight-straight points during one stretch. He connected on back-to-back three-pointers and a jumper to help build a 14-10 lead. Stanford continued to push its advantage, en route to a victory in the first scrimmage.

The Cardinal and the Montava Stings tied the second and third scrimmages, before Mantova captured the fourth and final scrimmage.

Allen scored a combined 22 points and collected a combined seven rebounds in the four scrimmages. He posted eight points each in the first and fourth game.

Stanford used a 5-0 run to break a tie game midway through the second scrimmage, capping the spurt with a Dorian Pickens fast break dunk. Mantova chipped away at the lead to force a tie at the conclusion of the second scrimmage.

Stanford and Mantova traded leads throughout the third scrimmage. A Malcolm Allen basket with less than a minute remaining gave the Cardinal the edge, before Mantova tied it just before the buzzer sounded.

The fourth and final scrimmage saw each team go on a run with Stanford striking first. The Cardinal opened with a 7-0 spurt in the first two minutes, highlighted by a Malcolm Allen layup and Rosco Allen fast break dunk. Mantova responded with 10 of the scrimmage’s next 11 points to take a two-point advantage. The teams traded leads over the next several minutes, highlighted by a Marcus Allen three-pointer right before the shot clock expired with two minutes to play.

The Cardinal held a three-point advantage with under a minute to go. A wild stretch that saw a Mantova three-pointer and a very late foul called on Stanford on the opposite end of the floor with time expired gave the Stings two free throws without any time left on the clock. They converted both to take the fourth scrimmage.

Stanford will conclude its exhibition tour in Italy in Verona on Wednesday with a game against Scaligera Basket Verona.
