CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Stanford hit three home runs in the fourth inning to rally back from a 6-0 deficit but the effort was not enough as the Cardinal fell 7-4 against San Diego State Sunday at the Mary Nutter Classic.

Stanford (7-7) finished the weekend 3-2 with wins against No. 17/12 Missouri, San Jose State and NC State.

Bessie Noll led the team offensively over the five-game weekend, batting .533 (8-for-15) with six RBIs, five walks, three doubles, six runs a home run and a .933 slugging percentage.

Jessica Plaza also had a strong weekend at the plate, going 6-for-15 (.400) with three RBIs, six runs, two doubles and four walks. Lauren Frost (.364), Kayla Bonstrom (.333) and Kylie Sorenson (.333) each hit over .300 on the weekend.

Stanford found itself in a 6-0 hole after San Diego State (10-5) posted a four-run third inning and followed with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning.

The Cardinal battled back with three home runs for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 6-4. Victoria Molina got the rally going with her second home run of the weekend and third of the season, sending a 3-2 pitch over the center field wall.

Frost hit the first home run of her collegiate career two at-bats later, hammering a shot to deep left field to cut the Aztecs’ lead to 6-2. Frost has at least one hit in each of the past four games and an RBI in each of the past three contests.

Kylie Sorenson continued her strong start to the season and completed the home run hat trick with a two-run shot to center field to close the deficit to 6-4. She has at least one hit in four of the past five games and contributed two RBIs in three of the past four games.

Haley Snyder came in as relief for starter Carolyn Lee (3-4) and did well to keep Stanford within striking distance. Snyder went 3.2 innings, permitting just one run on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

San Diego State tacked on an insurance run in the top of the sixth to extend its lead to 7-4. Stanford continued to hit the ball hard but could not find the hits needed to close the gap.

The Cardinal travels to Honolulu, Hawaii, next weekend for three games against Coastal Carolina and two contests against Hawaii.
