Science Education and Research Training

HHMI's science education grants program spurs innovation in science education for students at the precollege level through advanced training. Our diverse portfolio of programs is unified by a core philosophy: innovation in science depends on the quality and diversity of students who are supported in pursuing original research.

CURRENT PROGRAMS

Undergraduate Programs
Grants through several HHMI initiatives train educators to teach science more effectively and allow undergraduate students from diverse populations to experience authentic research early in their academic careers. Our undergraduate programs include:

Physician-Scientist Training
The Medical Research Fellows Program gives medical, veterinary, and dental students a chance to focus on a research project full-time and determine how they can incorporate research into their professional careers.

Graduate Programs
Grants in the following programs support graduate and postdoctoral science education, with an emphasis on bridging disciplines and creating opportunities for students from diverse populations to persist through the highest levels of academic science:

Development of Early-Career Scientists
These publications can help beginning scientists "make the right moves" and assist those who take on the important task of providing early-career researchers with scientific management training.
