Matthew Lungren, MD

  • Matthew P Lungren
  • “Being a parent has made me a better physician.”

I'm an interventional radiologist with a focus on vascular anomalies and pediatric oncology. Children with cancer have very limited options beyond chemotherapy and surgery — providing a third option of minimally invasive procedures is something we are proud to offer.

We are also one of the few places that specializes in treating vascular anomalies. We had a patient who was being teased at school because of a deforming vascular malformation on her face. Watching her self-esteem grow as we treated her condition was very rewarding.

I'm also a father of three kids, and being a parent has made me a better physician. My first child had health problems; that experience made me more sensitive to how pediatric patients are treated. I make sure that children feel safe and comfortable. I also make sure that everyone is on the same page by keeping the lines of communication open and giving families time to ask questions. Being open with families is one of the most important things that I do.
