In which John Green teaches you the history of Islam, including the revelation of the Qu'ran to Muhammad, the five pillars of Islam, how the Islamic empire got its start, the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and more. Learn about hadiths, Abu Bakr, and whether the Umma has anything to do with Uma Thurman (spoiler alert: it doesn't). Also, learn a little about the split between Sunni and Shia Muslims, and how to tell if this year's Ramadan is going to be difficult for your Muslim friends. Let's try to keep the flame wars out of this reasoned discussion.

  • Great work there John... please spread the true words of religions so there will be no misunderstandings in the future.

  • Guys just calm down. This is meant to be a educational video that doesn't take sides. hes just acknowledging Muslim history and showing us how their society developed. If you want to debate religion I'm sure there's a million religious videos you can go debate on.

  • This was such a great video! The best thing about these Crash Course videos is how John is so unbiased and it's all about teaching. I love it! Keep up the great work! ^-^

  • This series is going along with my high-school history class and is really helpful.

  • I think those who love science tend to like facts and logic. Not saying Islam is logical but instead that generally anything said about Islam is very opinion based and done in an othering fashion. For ex, I don't know how many times I've heard: "there is no god but allah" which means: "there is no god but god." Instead of translating that arabic statement into "there is one god" it's done in an opinion drenched basis. So ppl who enjoy science can also appreciate how stupid have been about Islam

  • Lupe Fiasco brought me here. Great work!.

  • I have not read it, thank you for correcting me I shall try to get it. I apologize if I have offended you (or anyone but the person I originally replied to), but I really hate it when atheists start trying to disprove religion in places where it is inappropriate.

  • i was about to convert till i heard there is no 72 virgins

  • Like if this knowledge was refered to you by Lupe Fiasco

  • Lupe brought me here!
