Overview

This high-resolution service provides for the detection, and quantitative measurement of chlorinated biphenyl congeners (CBCs) (either the 12 congeners defined as toxic by the World Health Organization or all 209 congeners) and/or 17 2,3,7,8-substituted tetra through octa chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (CDDs) and chlorinated dibenzofurans (CDFs) in aqueous/water, soil/sediment, sludge, tissue (non-human), biosolids, ash, oil, and oily matrices using a High Resolution Gas Chromatography/High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS) to analyze the samples. This service offers preliminary results and 14, 21 and 35 day turnaround.

Modified Analyses are also offered through this service.  Modified analyses that may be requested include, but are not limited to, adding additional compounds, adjusting Contract Required Quantitation Limits (CRQLs) for target analytes, and making minor adjustments to specific analytical protocols to enhance method performance.

The draft Statement of Work for High Resolution Superfund Methods (Multi-Media, Multi-Concentration) HRSM01.2 is anticipated to replace the DLM02.2 and CBC01.2 Statement of Work in the next fiscal year.

Chlorinated Dibenzo-p-Dioxins and Dibenzo-p-Furans

The method for the analysis of the 2,3,7,8-substituted chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzo-p-furans(CDD/CDF)  in water, soil, sludge, tissue (non-human), biosolid, ash, oil, and oily matrix samples is based on EPA methods SW-846 8290A and 1613B. The method analyzes for 17 analytes. Most of the analytes are calibrated over the range 10 -100 pg/L up to 4000 - 10,000 pg/L (1.0-10 ng/kg up to 400-4,000 ng/kg) . The method uses a variety of extraction and cleanup techniques to remove the analytes from the sample matrix prior to analysis by isotope dilution on a High-Resolution Gas Chromatograph/ High-Resolution Mass Spectrometer instrument.

Chlorinated Biphenyl Congeners

The method for the analysis of chlorinated biphenyl congeners (CBC) in water, soil, sludge, tissue (non-human), biosolid, ash, oil, and oily matrix samples is based on EPA methods SW-846 8290A and 1668B (using CBC01.2 SOW) or 1668C (using HRSM01.2 SOW). The method can analyze for all 209 congeners. The 12 WHO-Toxic congeners are calibrated over the range 20 - 40,000 pg/L (2.0-4,000 ng/kg) . The method uses a variety of extraction and cleanup techniques to remove the analytes from the sample matrix prior to analysis by isotope dilution on a High-Resolution Gas Chromatograph/ High-Resolution Mass Spectrometer instrument.
