Products bearing the WaterSense label are generally 20 percent more water–efficient than similar products in the marketplace. The WaterSense label helps you identify high-performing, water–efficient products, and new homes, as well as professional certification programs that embrace and encourage the use of water–efficient design. EPA develops specifications that set outline the requirements that products and programs must meet to earn the WaterSense label:

Certification and Labeling
Products
The WaterSense Product Certification System guides the product certification and labeling process. To use the WaterSense label on products, manufacturers must first confirm their eligibility and become partners.
New Homes
The WaterSense Labeled New Home Certification System outlines the process and procedures for the inspection and certification of WaterSense labeled new homes. Builders interested in building new homes to the WaterSense specification and obtaining the WaterSense label must first confirm their eligibility and become partners. Licensed certification providers interested in certifying new homes for the WaterSense program must also become WaterSense partners.
Professional Certification Programs
The WaterSense Professional Certification Program Labeling System specifies the organizational requirements a professional certifying organization must meet in order to have professional certification program labeled under the one of the WaterSense program specifications. EPA Approved professional certifying organizations must also become WaterSense partners upon successful labeling of their first certification program.
Program Documents
Manufacturers, licensed certifying bodies, builders, and licensed certification providers must adhere to the requirements of all relevant final product specifications and technical clarifications, the relevant certification system, and the following program documents:
