Gloria Riviera is a Digital Journalist for ABC News based in Beijing. She reports on a wide range of feature and hard news topics. As an ABC News correspondent she has been based in London, New York and Washington D.C. contributing to all ABC News platforms. Most recently she was based in London where she filed reports for "World News", "Good Morning America" and "Nightline". In this assignment, Riviera covered the global financial crisis, nuclear tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the eruption of Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano and subsequent air travel chaos, and protests in Iran following the 2009 Presidential election. She also appeared regularly as a political commentator for the BBC network. In 2004, Riviera was named a correspondent for ABC NewsOne. She traveled extensively to cover breaking news including Hurricane Katrina, the disappearance of Natalie Holloway and the 2006 conflict between Israel and Lebanon. Riviera started her career with ABC News in 1999 as the assistant to then network anchor Sam Donaldson before becoming an associate producer for ABC news in 2001. Based in New York, she covered Ground Zero on 9/11, the United Nations Security Council, multiple conflict zones in the Middle East (including embedding with the 3rd Infantry Division in Fallujah, Iraq) and the U.S. Presidential Campaign in 2004 as an off-air reporter embedded with the John Edwards campaign. She executive produced award winning September 11th coverage. Winning an Emmy for breaking news coverage of 9/11, Riviera also won the Alfred I. DuPont Award for her work on the special: "9/11: Answering Children's Questions" in 2003. Riviera is an avid outdoor enthusiast. She is married to ABC News' former Senior Foreign Correspondent, Jim Sciutto who currently serves as Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the Ambassador to China. Together they have two children, Tristan and Caden.
